Laparoscopic surgery, also known as keyhole surgery, is performed through several small incisions using a tiny camera and specialised surgical instruments. Compared with traditional open surgery, laparoscopic surgery generally results in less postoperative pain, smaller scars, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery for suitable patients.

Many common procedures can be performed using minimally invasive techniques, including gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy), appendectomy, hernia repair, colorectal surgery, and selected stomach and intestinal procedures. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate surgical approach based on your condition and overall health.

Common symptoms of appendicitis include sudden pain that usually begins around the navel and moves to the lower right abdomen, fever, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Appendicitis is a medical emergency that requires prompt evaluation and, in most cases, surgical removal of the appendix. If you experience these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.

Gallstones may cause sudden pain in the upper right abdomen, especially after eating fatty meals. Other symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, bloating, indigestion, or pain that radiates to the back or right shoulder. If left untreated, gallstones can lead to inflammation or infection. Our general surgeons can assess your condition and advise whether surgery is necessary.

A hernia often appears as a bulge or swelling in the groin, abdomen, or around a previous surgical scar. It may become more noticeable when coughing, lifting heavy objects, or standing for long periods. Some hernias may cause discomfort or pain and usually require surgical repair to prevent complications.

Before your surgery, your surgeon may arrange blood tests, imaging scans, or other pre-operative assessments. You may also be advised to stop certain medications, fast before surgery, and arrange transportation and support at home after discharge.
