Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) Test
FeNO test is a biomarker of airway inflammation. Your body makes nitric oxide (a gas), which gets released when you exhale. A FeNO test measures the level of nitric oxide in your breath. Elevated levels of exhaled nitric oxide indicate airway inflammation.
Airway inflammation is an important component of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and various cough syndromes. Airway inflammation can lead to airway hyperresponsiveness and airway obstruction.
