Dr. Rashidah Yasin is our consultant physician and respiratory medicine specialist. She is a graduate of the University College Dublin, Ireland and later obtained a Master of Internal Medicine from the National University of Malaysia. She went on to complete a Fellowship in Respiratory Medicine from the Respiratory Medical Institute in Kuala Lumpur followed by an additional Fellowship in Sleep Medicine from the renowned Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
What is the role of a Physician and Respirologist?
Respirologist or respiratory medicine physician possess specialized knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of lung conditions. Managing lung infections (pneumonia) and chronic respiratory diseases (e.g. asthma, COPD, tuberculosis, lung cancers and OSA) are the main duties of a respirologist.
When do you need to see a Respirologist?
You should always seek medical advice from a Respirologist if you experience:
- Cough lasting for more than 2 weeks.
- Cough up blood-stained sputum (haemoptysis).
- Night time (nocturnal) coughing.
- Prolonged fever (more than 2 weeks) with night sweats.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Reduce effort tolerance.
- Chest pain (pleurisy).
- Loud snoring.
- Excessive daytime sleepiness or tiredness.
- Disturbance in sleep.
