What is the role of a Consultant Dermatologist?

A Consultant Dermatologist is a medical specialist who diagnoses and treats skin, hair, and nail conditions. They provide expert care for a wide range of issues, from acne and eczema to skin cancer. Additionally, they offer cosmetic procedures to improve skin appearance and health.

When do you need to see a Consultant Dermatologist?

If you are experiencing any of the following issues, seeking advice from a Dermatologist is essential:

  1. Persistent or severe acne that doesn’t improve with over-the-counter treatments.
  2. Unusual moles or changes in existing moles, which could indicate skin cancer.
  3. Chronic skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis that require specialist care.
  4. Rashes or skin infections that do not respond to initial treatments.
  5. Hair loss or scalp issues, including excessive dandruff.
  6. Nail abnormalities like discoloration, thickening, or pain.
  7. Cosmetic concerns, such as wrinkles, scars, or pigmentation issues.
  8. Allergic skin reactions or unexplained itching.
  9. Suspicion of autoimmune skin diseases like lupus.
  10. General skin health checks, especially if there’s a family history of skin cancer.
